In today’s fast-paced world, it’s common to feel like our minds are always full. We live in a dopamine-centric society with many things to do, places to be, and distractions competing for our attention. It’s easy to get consumed amidst all the chaos and feel as though we are on autopilot, reacting to our environment without being present.
But what if I told you that there is another way to approach life, one that can help us feel more calm, centred, and focused. It’s called mindfulness, and it’s all about being fully present in the moment, aware of your thoughts and feeling without judgment. In this blog post, we’ll explore the difference between a full mind and being mindful. We will also touch upon why it is important to cultivate mindfulness. I promise this isn’t your typical corny mindfulness proposed by your base-level therapist. “TaKe NotE oF 3 SiGhTs, SmElLs, AnD, FeEliNgS”
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE YOUR MIND FULL?
When I refer to someone having their mind full, it means they are preoccupied with thoughts and worries. In the West, one could argue this is an epidemic in the advent of this hustle culture, and the constant go go go nature of our society. Those with their mind full may be juggling multiple takes and responsibilities, or struggling to keep up with the demands of their job, family, or social life. They often feel stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, and find it hard to relax or focus on any one thing for very long.
This full mind can be a natural response to the pressures of modern life, but it can also be a sign of deeper issues like anxiety or depression. When we’re constantly thinking about the past or worrying about the, we’re not fully engaged in the present moment. This can lead to a disconnect from oneself and others, and make it difficult to find joy or satisfaction in our daily lives
WHAT IS MINDFULNESS?
Mindfulness is a practice that involves bringing our attention to the present moment, with openness. It’s about noticing what’s happening right now, without judgment or attachment. This can be achieved through a wide variety of techniques, be it meditation, Yoga, or simply paying attention to your breath
Being mindful has been shown to have a variety of benefits for our physical and mental health, including reducing stress, improving sleep, and boosting immune function. It can also help us to cultivate a sense of inner peace and well-being, and deepen our connections with others.
The power of the present is as follows… The only time when one can really take in the true beauty and essence of our existence is in the present. There’s so much to be gained, learned, and felt in the present that is otherwise missed in the past or future. When one looks into the past they romanticize the idea of a failed present tense. Say you look back and think you could’ve done something differently like done better on a test. You play the what-ifs in your head and are distracted from the beauty of all the present things occurring in your life.
Likewise, for the future… When one looks into the future they create expectations and romanticize the idea of what is to come. Once again, distracted from the beauty and essence of what is occurring in the present. It is difficult to be grateful when you’re in a perpetual state of romanticizing what could have been or what is to come.
MY ADVICE & WHY IS MINDFULNESS IMPORTANT?
Here are my final remarks… When you fully tap into the present it is a very powerful thing and comes with an insane inner peace and clarity. When you’re truly in the present it is a lot easier to enter a flow state of productivity and pure happiness. If you are fully present it can help you to be introspective, and slow down life to understand what you really need and desire in accordance with your body. This is why it is important. Now as food for thought run with this for a second. In the present, every interaction you have virtually is not the same, irrespective if it’s the most mundane task or interaction there’s always a different element to the environment it’s just for you to experience or discover. To be honest, I think it’s one of the beautiful things about the human experience whether it be your mindset, the mindset of others, or the environment, nothing is the same!!! So soak in each experience for its entirety, because it’s truly a shame to miss the present romanticizing the past or future.
